Joe E. Brown stars as Elmer Kane, baseball player par excellence of his town Gentryville. He is drafted by the Chicago Cubs and doesn't want to leave. When he does he finds another woman interested in him. He gets mixed up with gamblers and this leads to trouble. Nellie comes to the big city to save the day but finds Elmer in trouble the day of the big game!!
